When Jaz came to see me, she already had what most would consider a good diet. However during the consultation it became apparent there was a nutrient deficiency causing some unwanted symptoms. It also became apparent that she was reacting to some specific foods suggesting an imbalance in her gut microbiota. It was important to support Jaz’s body through a new training regime that was higher in intensity, therefor it was imperative to find solutions to increase her overall daily protein intake whilst timing her carbohydrate intake to accommodate this as well as support her goal of gaining FFM.

In Jaz’s nutrition programme we focused on nutrient dense foods and foods high in the deficiency she was presenting with along with cofactors to increase the nutrients absorption. We also included gut friendly foods which in turn would reduce her symptoms as well as have an anti-inflammatory effect speeding up her recovery from exercise. Magnesium foods were included to support her muscles in recovery as well as provide a calming effect in the evenings and new solutions to increase protein intake were provided allowing Jaz to train more frequently at a higher intensity leading her to becoming Great Britain’s most prolific try scorer in the Olympics and world tour.
